My cooking journey had been pretty much a blessing as most dishes I tried to cook are successful (except for the soup, still trying very hard).
I start off by goggling for simple recipes or recipe that were my childhood food.
One of my childhood food turns out to pretty easy which is the Pig Trotter Bee Hoon.
Ingredients
1 tbsp cooking oil
3 tsp chopped garlic
3 eggs (lightly beaten) - You can have more if you wish
1 plate of shredded cabbage (I used half of a Beijing cabbage)
3 cans of Narcissus brand (水仙花牌)
1 packet of Chilli brand Bee Hoon (400g)
1 tbsp dark soya sauce
2 tsp light soya sauce
Pepper to taste
Method
- Soak the bee hoon in cold water for around 30 mins (Do not use hot water, your bee hoon will break into small pieces and they absorb more liquid which cause the end product to be more watery). Drain and set aside.
- Heat oil in work and add in chopped garlic. Fry till fragrant. Do not burn it.
- Push garlic to the side and add in beaten eggs. Scramble the eggs.
- Add in cabbage and mixed well with the garlic and eggs. Fry for around 2 minutes. Push to the side.
- Add in the 3 cans of the pig trotters.
- Once the fluid of the pig trotters boils, add in bee hoon and mixed all the ingredients.
- Cover the wok and let it simmers for 3-4 minutes to allows the bee hoon to absorb the liquid and flavors.
- Add in light soya sauce, dark soya sauce and pepper. Mix well.
This is a pretty simple recipe. You need to set aside some hot water in case the bee hoon gets too dry.
The above recipe is enough to serve 4-6 people.
Enjoy cooking :)
